aligner-orthodontist-treatmentuLab Systems, Redwood City, Calif, has released version 5.0 of its uDesign aligner planning software.

According to the company, the uDesign software allows orthodontists to create treatment plans within 10 minutes and makes same-day aligners and combo/hybrid cases possible.

Version 5.0 contains over 25 new features that give control back to the orthodontist, according to Charlie Wen, ULab’s president and chief technology officer. Automatic segmentation, virtual bracket removal, and velocity variability across states are one of the new features included in uDesign 5.0.

The Automatic Segmentation tool allows uLab Artificial Intelligence to quickly identify teeth, removing the need for the orthodontist to manually select individual teeth, thus saving doctor time. The Virtual Bracket Removal tool removes the patient’s brackets before their final appointment and allows the orthodontist to have the patient’s final appliances ready at that appointment, saving an appointment.

Meanwhile, the Velocity Variability Across Stages tool allows the orthodontist to determine what is best for the patient. The doctor can slow down velocities during more difficult movements or speed things up during easier stages. According to the company, this tool, when combined with any uLab preferred 3D printer, allows orthodontists to print the first three stages of aligners so that they can provide patients with their aligners within the same appointment.

uLab says it is currently expanding its limited launch by offering a finite number of individual on boarding session to orthodontists in 2019. More information is available at the company’s website, ulabsystems.com.
