CarestreamDental_CS8100SCCarestream Dental, Atlanta, has introduced the CS 8100SC scanning cephalometric imaging system. Built on the technology of the CS 8100 panoramic system, it allows practitioners to add digital cephalometric imaging to their practice for more diagnostic capabilities.

According to the company, the system features a compact design and the fastest scanning times of any cephalometric unit on the market—up to 80% faster. Given the short exposure times that reduce patient dose and the risk of motion blur, the system is ideal for use with young patients. Plus, practitioners have the option to choose from two scanning modes–including a high-resolution mode for the highest image quality and a fast scan mode for exposure time that is more than twice as fast.

The CS 8100SC features a full range of image formats and is ideal for everyday orthodontic and oral surgery needs. Up to three image sizes can be selected—from 26 x 24 cm, 18 x 24 cm, to 18 x 18 cm. Clinicians also have the option to choose from a variety of views including lateral, oblique, frontal (AP/PA), and carpus (available as an option). The unit includes two sensors as a standard: one for cephalometric and one for panoramic imaging Due to this design, there is no need to change the sensor between examinations, reducing manipulation and preventing the risk of damage to the unit.

The unit uses Advanced Carestream Dental imaging software, which has the ability to recognize anatomical structures and trace them automatically, making the CS 8100SC the only cephalometric unit to offer automatic tracing, according to the company. Covering the most common analysis needs (including McNamara, Ricketts, Steiner, and Tweed), the software editor also allows practitioners to personalize tracings and to create customized templates for treatment planning.

The system’s technology also combines an all-new 4T CMOS sensor, state-of-the-art scanning technology, and generator to provide practitioners with high-quality images. Orthodontic preset filters optimize the visualization of hard and soft tissues with one click, while the CS Adapt module allows for greater customization of an image’s look and feel to suit a clinician’s personal preferences.
