Teledontics transforms conventional restrictive orthodontic approaches that are harmful to the upper airway into more precise and preventive ones.

Space Maintainers Laboratories is scheduled to present a webinar that will introduce orthodontic practitioners to the emerging field of teledontics on May 27, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm ET. There will be one AGD PACE continuing education credit issued to participants.

Teledontics is a non-surgical therapy for the management and treatment of early growth and development issues that an alarming number of children suffer from today.

The therapy aims to bridge the gap between the disciplines of medicine and clinical dentistry. It transforms the conventional restrictive orthodontic approaches such as extraction of the teeth, and use of headgear and functional appliances, harmful to the upper airway, into more precise and preventive ones that promote proper pharyngorofacial (POF) and upper airway growth.

Guest speaker Joseph Yousefian, DMD, MS, MA, will discuss the following topics with attendees:

  • Interdisciplinary collaboration in early treatment of children
  • Proper screening and early diagnosis
  • Review of novel dental appliance to address growth and development

Yousefian received his dental degree from Washington University, and completed post-graduate training in orthodontics and dual Masters of Science Degree in biology and physical anthropology at Ohio State University.

He is diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine and American Board of Orthodontics and is in private practice in Bellevue, Wash. He has collaborated in several NIH funded clinical trials in airway, open bite, and TMJ disorders. He has served as a clinical assistant professor at the Ohio State University and University of Washington, and is a guest lecturer at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. The lecturer, who has traveled nationally and internationally, has contributed 30 publications in peer-reviewed journals and 12 textbooks.
