Planmeca University, Richardson, Tex, has redesigned and renamed its Chairside Dental Designer program (CDD), which was introduced to provide dental assistants and dental technicians with opportunities for growth in the CAD/CAM chairside dentistry arena. The new program is called Certified in Digital Dentistry, and the CAD/CAM-related groups/specialties within it include scanning, designing, and finishing.

Digital Dentistry Certification consists of a two-part study program (online and hands-on) taught by experienced faculty. Courses are organized around experiential activities to help dental professionals develop new skills and acquire additional proficiencies that can be used daily, as well as to advance their careers. An annual renewal process ensures that those who earn the CDD designation keep up with the latest in technology in their field.
