The Schulman Study Group, San Clemente, Calif, has awarded the 2014 Martin “Bud” Schulman Award to Robert James Bray, DDS, MS, of Brayces Orthodontics, Somers Point, NJ.

According to the Schulman Study Group, recipients of the Bud Schulman Award receive a contribution of $5,000 to donate to the charity of his or her choice.

Bray, who was the 2009-2010 president of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), is the current chair of the National Planned Giving Campaign and the Gift Acceptance Committee of the AAO Foundation (AAOF). He is also president elect of the AAOF, and has served as the general chair of the J. Daniel Subtelny Endowment Fund for the Eastman Institute for Oral Health.

He served as a clinical associate professor in the Department of Orthodontics at the Temple University School of Dentistry, and is a past president of the Middle Atlantic Society of Orthodontists.

Throughout the course of his career, Bray has held leadership positions outside orthodontics and dentistry, including service on the Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America. For more than 20 years he has served on the Hospital Board of Trustees at Shore Medical Center in Somers Point, NJ, and is the board’s current vice chair.

Bray completed his orthodontic training at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health at the University of Rochester. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) and a member of the College of Diplomates of the ABO.
