SmileDirectClub, Nashville, Tenn, an at-home orthodontic aligner supplier, announced that it is permanently lowering the price of its patent-pending impression kit from $95 to $79.

The impression kit, which is shipped overnight to customers, contains everything needed to capture impressions for creating aligners.

The 15% price cut is aimed at opening the service to more consumers, according to a press release from the company.

“We understand that fixing your smile has been inconvenient and expensive in the past; we want to remove as many barriers as possible—and price is a big one,” said Alex Fenkell, co-founder of SmileDirectClub.

According to the press release, the SmileDirectClub impression kit allows customers to do dental impressions in their own home. The impressions made with the kit are then sent to SmileDirectClub to make a digital rendering of a customer’s smile, which is reviewed by an assigned licensed dentist or orthodontist. If it is determined that the customer qualifies for treatment, the licensed dentist or orthodontist will create a 3D custom treatment plan that is then shared with the customer to show them how their teeth will move over time to provide them with a better smile.

The impression kits are available through the company’s website. Existing SmileDirectClub customers who have already completed their impression kit purchase will not be affected by the price change.
