Registration for the annual Halloween Candy Buyback Program has opened. Founded in 2005, the program aims to cut back children’s consumption of cavity-inducing Halloween treats by buying back their Halloween candy in exchange for incentives such as cavity fighting xylitol candies and cash.
The collected candy is sent to members of the armed services serving overseas. This year, the program aims to send toothbrushes as well.
For 2015, the program has teamed with Xlear Inc, a manufacturer of xylitol products, and Tess Oral Health, makers of dental, professional, and oral hygiene products. They will partner with dental offices nationwide to reach the goal of sending 100,000 toothbrushes overseas to give to armed service members. Participating offices are encouraged to set up collection jars at the check-out desk for patients to have the option of donating their toothbrush in the take-home hygiene kit to troops.
Offices planning to participate will need to register their practices, regardless of past buyback participation, if they would like to appear in the zip code search on the program website. The program has also implemented a new division, the Platinum Buyback. This status is designed to provide each practice with the supplies needed to host a new buyback program. Sponsors Xlear and Tess Oral Health have partnered to donate 30 brushes for each paid Platinum Buyback registration, up to 30,000 brushes. For $125, practices at the Platinum Buyback level will receive:
50 baggies with $10 worth of xylitol candy, mints, gum, and other products as well as coupons and informational materials.
Your buyback will receive a preferential listing in the zip code registry on the website. When your zip is searched, your office will show up before non-Platinum Buybacks on the registry.
Your practice will be entered into the “Buyback of the Year” contest. Only practices in the Platinum program will be considered as they will be educating patients and assisting in the brush donation.
Your practice will be entered into multiple PR opportunities in your local market.
