Dr. Fresh Inc, Buena Park, Calif, is holding its fifth annual "Be A Dental Inventor" Contest. The maker of the flashing Firefly toothbrush is asking second through fifth graders across the United States to design a fun, engaging, and motivational toothbrush for the contest, which celebrates National Children’s Dental Health Month this February 2011.

This year, competitors can submit their ideas either as drawings or videos, which will judged separately. The competition celebrates its fifth anniversary with a special twist. For the first time, in addition to the drawing category, video submissions will be accepted and eligible for prizes in a separate category.

The first-prize winners in both the drawing and video categories, along with a parent or guardian, will receive a trip to Buena Park, where they will visit the Dr. Fresh headquarters and then enjoy a day at the nearby Disneyland resort. The prize includes two tickets to Disneyland, a 2 nights’ hotel stay, and airfare. The winners will also receive a $500 US savings bond, while the second- and third-place winners in both the drawing and video categories will receive $250 US savings bonds.

To enter the drawing category, children should submit an original drawing of their toothbrush design, accompanied by a brief written description (100 words or less) on why they think kids would like to use this toothbrush. Paints, crayons, chalk, pencils, and markers are all accepted.

To enter the video category, children should upload a video in which they talk about and/or show a drawing or rendering of their toothbrush idea. Judges will select semifinalist videos to be posted on YouTube and Facebook. The entries that receive the most "views" and "likes" (combined) will be the winners.

Drawing entries must be postmarked by January 24, 2011. For complete contest guidelines, to download an official entry form, and to learn how to upload a video, click here

All entries become the property of Dr. Fresh Inc and will not be returned.
