The American Association of Dental Office Managers (AADOM) is now accepting nominations for the annual “Green Leader” Award. The award was created as part of the Green Leader Initiative, which is designed to educate dental office managers across the country about easy-to-implement strategies that reduce their environmental footprint and support their practices in achieving greater financial success.

The initiative is made possible by a grant from the Henry Schein Cares Foundation, which aims to help orient the dental community toward environmental sustainability and to educate on the importance of “going green.” Funding for the grant comes from funds raised through Henry Schein’s “Calendar of Caring” cause marketing programs. The “Calendar of Caring” programs offer customers special products for purchase throughout the year, with a portion of the proceeds raised through these purchases donated to the Henry Schein Cares Foundation in support of various causes, such as an environmentally sustainable future.

The award is based on the presence of three requirements: the use of green products; the use of green practices; and an environmental mind-set around their dental practice. Last year’s award winner, Tina Cabrera, from Elgin, Ill, was presented with the award in recognition of her work moving her office to achieve a gold award in Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design (LEED) for Commercial Interiors.

The 2014 award will be presented at AADOM’s 10th Annual Conference, which will take place September 4 to 6, 2014, in San Diego.

AADOM Founder Heather Colicchio remarked that “the Green Leader Award is a way for a manager to show the difference that he or she can make in a practice. Our Award winners’ dedication to the environment is impressive.”

Information about the award, including the nomination form, can be found at www.dentalmanagers.com/green-leader-nomination-2014.

The winner will be featured on AADOM’s website and in future AADOM publications. Nominations will remain open until July 31, 2014.
