The ADA is nowaccepting applications for its new John W. Stanford New InvestigatorAward, recognizing the crucial role dental standards play in assuringpatient health and safety and the efficacy of dental products. The awardwas designed to encourage dentists and dental students to conductstandards-based research and standards development.

Dental students and dentists who have earned their dental degree noearlier than 2007 are eligible to apply for the John W. Stanford NewInvestigator Award. Applicants are required to submit an originalresearch report that could be published, and must submit an explanationof how the research incorporates current dental standards and/orcontributed to the development of dental standards. Applications, whichcan be downloaded from the ADA Web site, are due by August 31, 2012.

The awards committee includes an ADA board member as well as leadersfrom the ADA Council on Scientific Affairs and the ADA StandardsCommittee on Dental Products. The committee, along with the ADA Councilon Scientific Affairs, will select the winner, which will be announcedin December.

The winner will receive airfare and a 2-night hotel stay to presenthis or her award-winning paper at the ADA Standards Committee on DentalProducts and the US Technical Advisory Group to the InternationalOrganization for Standardization Technical Committee 106 on DentistryMeeting in Seattle in March 2013. The winner will also be announced inthe ADA’s member publication, ADA News, and the winning paper will be eligible for publication in a dental journal.
