Can you tell me what type of pliers would be needed to use on lingual applications? - Mike De Perro, Bensalem, PA

You can still use the same pliers that most practitioners use for regular ortho.

I have been using a lot of Ormco 7th gen and STb brackets for treating my lingual cases, which include extraction cases as well. I would like to try Forestadent 2D brackets. Do you advise them to be used in cases needing extraction or only in simple, nonextraction cases? - Rajesh Patil, Mumbai, India

Hi Dr Patil,
I would recommend the 2d lingual brackets for extraction cases. They work very well to close spaces using lingual power thread.

Sincerely,
Marco Antonio Pinto, DMD, CAGS

Do you have any courses available? Are they open to foreign doctors? - Paolo Carvajal, San Jose, Costa Rica

Hi Dr Carvajal,

I will eventually have a publication in Spanish and French. I am fluent in both languages and eventually I would love to reach out to more doctors that are interested in lingual orthodontics.

Are you currently using lingual braces in your practice?

Thanks,
Marco Antonio Pinto, DMD, CAGS

Good morning and thank you for your time. I would like to ask you if I can use two different types of bracket for the same dental arch, for example In-Ovation L brackets for anterior teeth and STb for premolars, in cases with a short dental premolar surface. - Dr Kanarelis, Athens, Greece

Hi Dr. Kanarelis,

Thank you for your question. The answer is yes.

I have used two different systems in the past, and it has worked as long as they are used symmetrically. Depending on the case, you may need to do a little more wire-bending at the finishing stages.

Thank you for your question.

Sincerely,
Marco Antonio Pinto, DMD, CAGS

My toughest lingual cases are when I have to extract 4 bis. The lower spaces are tough to close. One case was a bimax protrusion case and the lower 3-3 were over retracted and I am now trying to recover. What are your thoughts in general about lower arch extractions and also any specific mechanics to help me out? Thanks.

Bill Dabney, Richmond, VA - Bill Dabney, Richmond, VA

Dear Dr Dabney,

Thank you so much for your question.

In general I have had very good experiences using the Forestadent 2d lingual brackets for my extraction cases. Depending on the case, closing loops and pc work great.

Is that the bracket you are currently using for your lingual cases?
