Orthodontist and Humanitarian Dies
Francis J. "Frank" Miller, DDS, MS, MD, an orthodontist and medical doctor who co-founded an international humanitarian organization, died of complications from cancer on June 20, 2008, at his home in Washington, Mo. He was 73.

According to a study published in BioMed Central's open access journal Globalization and Health , fluoride toothpaste is expensive for the world's poorest people. Researchers report that the poorest populations of developing countries have the least access to affordable toothpaste.

Using Patients' Own Bone to Accelerate Orthodontics
Led by Hessam Nowzari, DDS, PhD, director of the USC School of Dentistry and Advanced Education in Periodontology program, researchers have published the first case study of the use of a patient's bone material for the grafting necessary in an accelerated orthodontic surgical procedure.

iSmile Dental Products, Sacramento, Calif, introduces a line of consumables and disposables. The new line, which includes cotton and paper products, gloves, infection control materials, and other high-use products, will be sold directly to dentists and will not be available from the major dental distributors.

DentLight introduces the 2008 version of the FUSION LED curing light. FUSION, made in the United States, is a cordless curing light with a solid metal body design.
