OP OrthoAccel AcceleDentSIZED205OrthoAccel Technologies Inc, Houston, has initiated a clinical trial to evaluate the effect of its AcceleDent orthodontic accessory on tooth movement with aligners. The technology is an FDA-cleared, Class II medical device that, according to OrthoAccel, speeds up orthodontic treatment by as much as 50%.

Conducted at the University of Florida College of Dentistry, the prospective randomized controlled trial will follow patients for 12 weeks during their clear aligner treatment with AcceleDent.

“The purpose of this clinical trial is to evaluate how pulsatile forces produced through AcceleDent’s SoftPulse technology enable teeth to move faster,” said Timothy Wheeler, DMD, PhD, principal investigator for the trial and professor at the University of Florida College of Dentistry.

AcceleDent is an orthodontic accessory intended for use during orthodontic treatment. According to OrthoAccel, the device is used in conjunction with orthodontic appliances, such as braces. It also helps facilitate minor anterior tooth movement, the company says.
