Biolux Research Ltd, Vancouver, Canada, has announced that the European Patent Office intends to grant Biolux a patent related to light therapy devices for treatment of bone disorders and biostimulation of bone and soft tissue. The patent relates to Biolux’s proprietary devices for extraoral photobiomodulation of the jaw for dental applications.

Biolux has also recently filed two Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) patent applications for new apparatuses and methods for applying photobiomodulation, or light therapy, to orthodontic treatment and related procedures. PCT applications enable patent coverage in all countries that are parties to the treaty, which include all major orthodontic markets.

According to an announcement from the company, using light-accelerated regeneration technology during traditional orthodontic treatment with appliances or clear retainers accelerates tooth movement and can dramatically reduce the typical treatment timelines.
