Smiles Change Lives (SCL),Kansas City, Mo, has named the recipients of its second annual GiniAwards, which the nonprofit gives to those who “go above and beyond intheir role as volunteers.” The awards, named for Virginia Brown, founderof the organization, will be handed out to six individuals and twocompanies at a reception on October 14, in Kansas City.

Among the individuals being recognized are orthodontists HilaryNieberg Baskin, DDS, Denver; Dustin Burleson, DDS, Kansas City, Mo;Randall Markarian, DMD, Southern, Ill; and Scott McCranels, DMD, WestPalm Beach, Fla. Kansas City volunteers Carrie Hobart and Jan Tracy, whohave provided marketing and design services, will also be honored.

3M Unitek, Monrovia, Calif, and Children’s Mercy Family Health Partners (CMFHP),Kansas City, Mo, will also receive Gini Awards. 3M Unitek has been asubstantial financial investor in SCL’s mission, while CMFHP, throughits employee volunteer program, has provided both time and financialsupport to the organization.
