Smile for a Lifetime,Jonesboro, Ark, a national nonprofit that provides scholarships forfree orthodontic treatment to underprivileged children, has launched anew local chapter in Orange County, Calif.

Services will be offered through Ormco’s Sybron Learning Center, located in Anaheim, Calif.

“The gift of a new smile is a life-changing opportunity for kids righthere in our own community,” said Matt O’Connell, executive vicepresident at Ormco. “Orange County has a reputation as one of thewealthiest communities in the country, but many don’t realize we alsohave a significant population of families for whom braces simply aren’twithin their budget. Thanks to the great work of Smile for a Lifetime,we can make a tremendous difference in the lives of children through thegift of a beautiful, self-confident smile.”

Children will be considered for free treatment through anapplication/nomination process whereby an adult close to the child—ateacher, coach, relative, or mentor—submits an application form, alongwith a letter of recommendation and a photo of the child, clearlyshowing his or her teeth. Applications will be reviewed by local boardmembers and are being accepted through the Orange County chapter. Thegroup plans to select at least six children to begin treatment thisyear.
