Brian T. Monney is director of marketing at  RMO®, where he has been working since 2003.

OP: What is the history of RMO, and what type of products do you provide to orthodontic practices?

Monney: This year, RMO celebrates its 75th anniversary. Since 1933, RMO has pioneered preformed molar bands, the metal-injection-molding (MIM) process, computer-aided diagnostic services (RMODS), interceptive pediatric and first-phase appliances, and the straightwire low-friction (SWLF) system, which includes RMO’s patented Synergy® bracket line, the Dual-Top TAD system, and the RMbond™ indirect bonding system.

OP: What’s your newest product?

Monney: RMO recently introduced its SWLF Synergy R™ bracket system. The bracket features passive, minimal friction and complete control when you need it.  The system incorporates a MIM convertible cap on the cuspid and bicuspid brackets, and features Synergy’s Friction Selection Control (FSC) modes. With the SWLF Synergy R system, no clips or doors are necessary. SWLF Synergy R provides rapid wire changeout, with cuspid and bicuspid brackets that can be converted into traditional Synergy-style brackets at any time during treatment. Once the brackets have been converted, Synergy’s FSC modes allow clinicians to ligate the bracket in different ways to achieve radically different degrees of friction and rotational control.

OP: What is the RMbond Indirect Bonding System?

Monney: RMbond™ provides all of the components necessary for Indirect Bonding (IDB). The RMbond™ IDB system delivers a step-by-step process that allows clinicians to fundamentally reduce the amount of chairtime involved when bonding brackets (and additional appliances) to a patient. The RMbond system also allows accurate bracket placement by staff members with modest training.

OP: Please describe your Dual-Top Anchor System.

Monney: RMO’s Dual-Top product line is a temporary anchorage device (TAD) system that provides efficient and flexible biomechanics. TADs are adaptations of permanent dental implants that have been modified for use in orthodontics and serve as temporary anchorage points for attaching various peripherals such as an elastomeric Energy Chain™, coil springs, and archwires. Dual-Top TADs have four special head designs that can enhance treatment capabilities and reduce treatment time, surgeries, and extractions. Dual-Top appliances can be inserted chairside by clinicians and loaded immediately. All Dual-Top TADs are self-drilling and self-tapping, so there is no tissue punch, pilot hole, or incision necessary. The appliances are FDA approved, made of a 100% biocompatible titanium alloy, rated up to 500 grams of force-load, and are available in a variety of different diameters and lengths.
